How do I live with the fear for someone in danger?

Pray specifically: their name, their body, their coming home. Vague prayers are hard to hold when you are this frightened. Ask for their protection, and for the people around them to be good to them. Then ask something for yourself — enough sleep to function, enough steadiness to be useful. Offered for good, as God wills, never against anyone else's child.

The word is shemirah — a guarding: the watch you ask God to keep when your own arms cannot reach.

From the sources “The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in.” — Psalm 121
