I lost my job. What do I ask for?

Ask for work, plainly, and for enough in the meantime. There is nothing unspiritual about praying for money you actually need — bread is the most ordinary request there is. Ask also for the harder thing: that your sense of your own worth does not walk out the door with the job title. Then send the applications. Prayer and work were never rivals.

The Hebrew for livelihood is parnasa — daily sustenance, asked for without shame.
