Half my life is gone and I have little to show. Is it too late?
The story that the important part is behind you is a story, not a fact — and it is doing you harm. What 'nothing to show' usually means is that you measured your life by a yardstick that was never yours. Ask God not for the years back, but for eyes to see what the next ones are for. Many lives turn their corner in the second half. Begin the small true thing now; late is not never.
The tradition holds up the image of those who still bear fruit in old age — od yenuvun b'seivah: a life is not judged finished until it is finished.
From the sources “They still bear fruit in old age; they stay fresh and green.” — Psalm 92
