My mother is seriously ill. What do I even ask for?

Ask plainly for her healing, in your own words, and then add four words: as God wills. Not because you want less, but because the weight stops being only yours to carry. Say what you fear. Then name one thing you are thankful for, even now — it keeps the heart from closing. Pray beside her care, never instead of it.

In Hebrew this is called refuah shleimah — a complete healing, of the body and of the soul together.
