How do panic attacks and faith fit together?
They fit the way a broken leg and faith fit: one is a body doing something, the other is not a treatment for it. A panic attack is not a spiritual verdict and not a lack of trust. Get real help — breathing, therapy, medication if you need it. And pray anyway, in the small vocabulary panic leaves you: help, be with me, hold me. Faithful people have panic attacks. The prayer is company for the body's storm, not a test you failed by having one.
One verse names exactly this rescue — when the cares within me were many, Your consolations, tanchumim, cheered my soul: not the storm removed, but comfort inside it.
From the sources “When the cares of my heart are many, Your consolations cheer my soul.” — Psalm 94
