Who am I without my job, my status, other people's expectations?
Ask God the question you are afraid to ask yourself, and then sit still long enough to stop performing. A title can be taken away; the thing under it cannot. You were a self before you were useful to anyone, and you will be one after. Name, out loud, one true thing about you that no employer gave you and none can remove.
The tradition says every person is made b'tzelem Elokim — in the image of God: a worth that no job grants and no loss can cancel.
