Why is the world so unjust — the cruel prosper, the good suffer?

This is the oldest complaint in the book, and Scripture does not scold the one who makes it. You are seeing a true thing, not a failure of faith. The honest answer is not a tidy reason but a limit: you are handed one thread of a weave whose pattern you cannot yet see. Do not let the injustice you cannot fix stop the justice you can do today. Refuse to become what you protest.

The tradition has a name for the felt absence of God in a crooked world — hester panim, the hiding of the face: not proof He is gone, but the hardest kind of trust.

From the sources “My feet had almost stumbled… but God is the strength of my heart forever.” — Psalm 73
